Apprentice Profile – Andrew Jones

Apprenticeship: Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology

Employer: Edencraft International Pty Ltd

Background & Journey

Andrew Jones began his marine career as a school-based apprentice at Edencraft, unsure at first where his future would lead. But after completing school and moving into a full-time apprenticeship, Andrew found his passion and purpose in marine mechanics and electrical fit-outs. Now in his fourth year, he’s become an integral part of the Edencraft team, working as a fit-out leading hand and taking on more responsibility across a variety of technical projects.

Skills & Achievements

Andrew has built a strong reputation for his precision, reliability, and technical versatility. His skills span across:

  • Engine servicing, gearbox repairs, and fuel system maintenance
  • Complex electrical installations and wiring for navigation, lighting, and safety systems
  • Diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults with accuracy and confidence

One of his proudest achievements was helping deliver a Formula project on a tight deadline — completing the wiring faster than usual and to an exceptional standard. His wiring work has become a hallmark of quality at Edencraft, often praised for its neatness and attention to detail.

Work Ethic & Attitude

Known for his reliability and professionalism, Andrew approaches each day with focus and determination. He shows initiative by tackling problems independently and often stays back to complete urgent jobs. His leadership potential is already clear — he enjoys helping other apprentices and setting an example for the team.

Growth & Development

Since starting, Andrew has made huge strides in both his technical ability and confidence. He’s shown resilience, especially during disruptions to his training when courses moved online, and continues to adapt to new technologies and methods. His journey from student to skilled tradesperson is a reflection of his strong commitment to learning and improvement.

Contribution to the Workplace

Andrew plays a vital role in supporting his team at Edencraft — assisting with complex jobs, mentoring junior staff, and taking responsibility for his own projects. His positive attitude and teamwork contribute to the supportive and productive culture Edencraft is known for.

Future Potential

With his technical ability, adaptability, and drive, Andrew has a bright future in the marine industry. He’s interested in leadership and hopes to continue growing within Edencraft, possibly travelling and working around Australia before buying a home back in Geelong.

In His Own Words

“I love wiring — getting it neat and right. I like helping others too, that leadership side of it. The best part is seeing how happy customers are when they get their boat. My advice to anyone thinking about it? Give it a go — you’ll know pretty quick if it’s for you.”
