Last Friday, Boating Careers hosted its first Industry Immersion Day in Williamstown—an event designed to connect local students with real career opportunities in the Victorian boating industry.
In partnership with the WynBay LLEN through their School to Work (S2W) program, a group of secondary students explored multiple marine employers, learning about jobs in marina operations, boat building, servicing, and sales. The day aimed to expose students to the industry, provide structured work experience pathways, and ultimately lead to school-based apprenticeships.
Students expressed clear interest in joining the marine industry, showing just how impactful this kind of hands-on exposure can be.
The immersion started at the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, where students toured the marina, learned about daily operations, and spoke with staff. They then headed to Haines Hunter for an exclusive tour of the boat manufacturing facility, gaining insights into the craftsmanship behind one of Australia’s most iconic brands. After lunch we visited the Seaworks Maritime Precinct, then finished the day with presentations at Savages Wharf featuring Penfolds Marine.
Special thanks to all the employers who gave their time and shared their knowledge:
- Michael from RYCV
- Marcela from Haines Hunter
- Glenn and the team from Seaworks
- Ryan from Savages Wharf
- Wade from Penfolds Marine
This event opened eyes—students and teachers alike came away with a new appreciation for the scale and variety of careers in the boating sector.
With five more immersion days planned across Victoria, this program is only just beginning. If you’re an employer or school wanting to get involved, reach out via info@boatingcareers.com.au.
