Discover an exciting career in the boating industry
Introduction
The Boating Careers Immersion Day aims to provide school students with hands-on experience in the marine industry to promote career pathways and employment opportunities. The program will be conducted across three locations: Dandenong South, Williamstown, and Geelong, with visits to various marine industry employers.
3 step immersion
Step 1: Provide students initial exposure to the industry with supervised visits to marine employers that can showcase apprenticeship opportunities in Marine Craft Construction, Marine Mechanical and Marine Trimming.
Step 2: Students are offered work placement opportunities to be coordinated to VicLLENs
Step 3: School Based Apprenticeship opportunities for those students participating in the S2W – coordinated by Headstart.
Objectives
- Provide school students with exposure to the marine industry.
- Promote career pathways and employment opportunities in the marine industry.
- Encourage employers to support the program by offering structured work placements and apprenticeship opportunities.
- Place students into structured work placement and school-based apprenticeships.

9:15 am - 10:15 am: Visit to Mercury Marine (Marine Mechanical)
- Introduction to marine engines and mechanical systems
- Guided tour of the facility
- Interactive demonstrations and Q&A session
10:15 am - 10:45 am: Travel to Bar Crusher Boats

12:30 pm - 12:45 pm: Travel to Patterson Lakes Marina
1:00pm pm - 2:00 pm: Visit to Patterson Lakes Marina (Marina Operations)

- Explanation of boat storage, docking, and maintenance services

2:30 pm: Travel back to Dandenong High School to drop off students
